Nexus 5 release hopes after Google October 24 event

By Updated on

How bad do you want to get your hands on a Nexus 5 from Google? After the release of the iPhone 5S, some consumers have been left disappointed with the final result and are looking to Google to provide their new smartphone fix with the highly anticipated, but still very much elusive Nexus 5.

It’s no secret that Apple will now switch their attention to the iPad 5, by confirming that they will hold an official event on October 22 at the Yerba Buena center in San Francisco. Interestingly, we can now reveal that Google plans to hold an event of their own just two days later.

Invites are now going out for a Google event, which will especially be themed around Google Play. The company promises a night out with music, games, movies and even drafting in the likes of Capital Cities – who are likely to perform hit single Safe and Sound.

With the nature of the event more tailored to entertainment purposes, is the chance of seeing a new Nexus 5 now slim to none? It would have been very surprising and cunning if Google decided to take the limelight away from Apple by unleashing the Nexus 5 to the world, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

When we finally do see the device in the flesh, we fully expect to see a phone with features such as a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core 1.9Ghz processor, a 13mp rear camera and a 2GB front camera with 16GB of onboard storage as a starting option.

It’s also going to be the device that ships with Android 4.4 Kitkat. We have seen plenty of leaks of the device to date, even with evidence of Google accidentally putting the Nexus 5 on the Google Play store early.

What are your thoughts on the timing of Google’s event on October 24, just two days after Apple’s iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 event? Do you think we will see any new hardware like the Nexus 5 or not?
