While Killzone Shadow Fall has already been confirmed to be supporting 1080p visuals upon release, many fans have been looking for clarification regarding Guerilla’s confirmation that the game will run in multiplayer at 60FPS ‘in most places’.
Gamers are always clued up these days with the technical jargon of the product they are about to buy and now we have the information that a lot of you are looking for. 1080p and 60FPS solid at all times is obviously the benchmark that developers are aiming for with all PS4 games, but unfortunately not all developers have been able to promise this yet.
Don’t get too disheartened about this just yet though. We are only at the start of the PS4 life cycle remember and developers need time to maximize the hardware. We actually have some good news to bring you regarding Killzone Shadow Fall’s 60FPS multiplayer mode.
While Guerilla has always said that the multiplayer will be 60FPS in most places, now we can bring you a clarification on this. In actual fact, we have found out that the only time the FPS will drop on the game, is when you see more than 24 enemies on the screen at any one time.
Lead designer Eric Boltjes revealed this crucial piece of information at OPM and had this to say in response when asked what would happen if a 25th enemy were to appear on screen:
“Framerate drops. They’re all autonomous, they create their own effects. They’re busy little bees. As soon as you push it over  then we get performance issues”
25 is a lot of enemies on screen though before you get worried and certainly more than Killzone 3 could ever handle. If this is going to be the threshold before we see a reduction in frame rate, we’ll definitely take it every time.
