If you are going to claim that the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a street-legal race car, you need the credentials to back that up. It is all very well offering up some impressive specifications, but translating this into real-life results is another. However, GM has done just that by clocking an impressive Nurburgring lap time of 7:37.47.
What impresses us most about this lap time is how it outperforms cars in a higher price bracket. This is made possible by some rather impressive 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 tech specs, which seems to make it a Porsche’s 911 Carrera S and Lamborghini’s Murcielago LP640 beater. However, having a good time on a race track is one thing, but translating that as a driver’s car as well is another.
The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 horsepower is rather impressive, as its 7.0L LS7 engine produces 505 hp, and while it is not as much as the LP640, the engine technology has moved on since then.
While the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 performance figures have not been released, it is assumed the vehicle will go from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and should cover a quarter of a mile in 12.5 seconds. We don’t expect the top speed to be as much as the ZL1, so 170 mph plus instead of 180 mph.
You might wonder how it is able to produce a better lap time on the race track when compared to its sibling, but that is all down to some of its impressive specs.
Weight plays a major role in how well a car handles, so the weight reduction in the Z/28 over the LSA and ZL1 certainly help. However, the biggest change is to aerodynamics, and offering the new Camera improved downforce allows the car to stay firmly planted to the gray stuff.
