For many users, the vast majority of their mentions ask to follow them thus to be able to direct message the user. Some do that because they really want to DM the account holder, while others do it just for the sake of having a new follower- who most likely will unfollow them since they did not DM him. We all know that the particular procedure is really annoying, and spams our followers timeline. Hence the social network has commenced rolling out an update allowing people who follow you to DM you, even if you don’t follow them, setting you free from this ordeal.
Though this integration is available for few people at the current moment. To see if your account received it all you have to do is go to settings and there you will find a check box letting you decide if you want this or not. From my standpoint, it is both useful and simultaneously redundant. All someone has to do if he wishes to talk to me in private is ask for my email. No reason to cause such a havoc. For people who like interacting with their followers solely from Twitter, it is a pretty useful tool. In addition, the box is unchecked by default.
Let us know if the update has popped up on your settings menu and if you are willing to make use of this new feature in the comments section below.
