With the arrival of the Nintendo 2DS, it was always obvious that people would start to compare the new handheld to the 3DS, such as their cameras and even how they compare visually. However, there are many aspects of these handheld consoles that need to be looked at, with battery life being one of them

Nintendo 2DS vs. 3DS battery life – Blunty has already taken a quick look at the 2Ds, but now has a more in-depth review, with its battery life being a main focus.

The video begins with a Nintendo 2DS review and discusses what the device actually is, which is basically a 3DS without the glasses free 3D screen. The 2DS is able to play all 3DS and XL games and DS games as well thanks to its backwards compatibility mode.

Just past the two minute mark on the video Blunty gets on to a battery rundown test, which on paper suggests they should be the same. However, in practice it could be different, which is the reason for the test. To get a true test of how the Nintendo 2DS and 3DS compare in terms of battery life they both have their Wi-Fi on, screen brightness is turned up to maximum and the volume down low.

It is also worth noting that the 3D slider was turned off on the 3DS and the battery was dead in 3 hours and 44 minutes. Blunty says that while this is not a perfect real world test, the 2DS battery outperformed the 3DS by a little less than an hour, with a time of 4 hours and 36 minutes before it died.

The Nintendo 2DS has two main markets, one for kids because it is robust and more affordable, and second for adults with its clean form factor and being large enough to fit comfortably in their hands. Speaking of that form factor, the 2DS does remind us of the new MacBook Air with its wedge shape, albeit a plastic cheaper looking version.
