We have some fantastic news for old school fans of Final Fantasy now. We’ve just heard from the director of the main series that the PS Vita may be in for further HD remaster treats if the upcoming and highly anticipated Final Fantasy X HD and X-2 HD remasters go on to be a success in terms of sales.
Given the hype and development time seen for the games so far, we don’t think there is any danger of both games not selling well. Final Fantasy X is still considered to be the best Final Fantasy game in the entire series for some gamers, so it is easily a game that is going to help both Sony and Square-Enix in terms of hardware and software sales.
Although we would probably rather see a western release of Final Fantasy Type-0 on the PS Vita first and foremost, it is an amazing prospect to think that we could be seeing an HD remaster of Final Fantasy XII as a follow-up game to FFXHD.
Here’s a direct quote from Producer Yoshinori Kitase when speaking to Nowgamer recently:
“We’d love a Vita version of Final Fantasy 12… I am also hoping that this HD remaster will open up some great possibilities in the future.”
Final Fantasy XII is another favorite for many fans and had one of the most interesting battle systems seen in the series to date. It also featured amazing graphics that pushed the boundaries of the PS2 hardware at the time of release, so it’s mouthwatering to think of the graphics being updated to HD and tailored for the gorgeous 5-inch OLED display.
It would be a no-brainer decision as far as we’re concerned. We would even request Square-Enix to start developing FFXII HD already, as we all know that FFX HD is going to do well when it eventually comes out.
It looks like we may have to wait until 2014 to see Final Fantasy X HD and X-2 HD over here though, as Square-Enix has only just confirmed a December 26 launch in Japan.
What is your reaction to the possibility of Final Fantasy XII HD appearing on the PS Vita? Are there any other Final Fantasy games that you would like to receive the HD treatment other than FFVII?
