iPad 5 vs. Surface 2 launch – Conflicting competition

By Updated on

October 22 is a date that should be marked in your diaries if you are an iOS or Windows fan, as this will be a day when we will see the competition conflicting with each other. We already mentioned this could be the date when Apple is expected to hold their event, and we already know the Surface 2 will be on sale that day. There is also the proposed Nokia event as well.

We already know for certain that the Microsoft Surface 2 will be on sale on October 22, and early signs look rather positive for the successor to the Surface RT. However, we have to wonder about the timing of the iPad 5 event because it could take some of the shine off the Surface 2?

Let’s remember the event date is just a rumor, but it is a safe bet. We say this because if it was going to be on October 15, then the Apple October event invites would have been sent out Tuesday just gone. With this in mind we should expect iPad event invites to go out on the 15th instead.

Nokia also wants in on the tablet action, and so they could be holding an event on October 22 in Dubai. It does seem as though this day will be the perfect storm, as those who were undecided about a platform might have already made their mind up about a Surface 2. However, they might wait to see what Nokia has up its sleeve.

Then again, with the Apple event expected to get the most media attention, we have to wonder how many people will hold off their tablet purchase just to see what Apple has planned with its iPad 5?

With Apple apparently set to unveil a new fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini at a media event in less than two weeks, the company will draw away the eyes of the tech world as Microsoft and Nokia attempt to drum up interest in their own competing devices on the very same day.

No doubt there will be those of you out there suggesting Apple has done this to belittle its competition. However, you have to remember the end of October is the launch window for the iPad, so we have to see it is more like bad timing on Microsoft’s part.
