The iPad 5 dimensions are something that is of great interest to us because it will determine how much of a change the new version has over the current model. What we have seen over the past few months is pure speculation based on information gathered from case makers.
However, we should not discount them because we have seen how on the money they were with the iPhone 5C. Just last month Apple Insider was given some documents showing what case makers believe will be the exact size of the iPad 5, and there are hints of a major refresh rather than a minor one we have seen over the past few years.
Most rumors would suggest the iPad 5 will have a body similar to that of the current iPad mini, albeit slightly larger to accommodate the larger display. Looking at the image below you can get a sense of the overall size of Apple’s upcoming tablet thanks to its measurements being displayed.
The iPad 5 width could be 169.48m, compared to 185.80mm for the iPad 4. The height looks as though it would be 241.3 compared to 240mm, and the thickness is said to be 7.5mm instead of 9.55mm for the current model.
That’s not all; the iPad 5 weight is expected to be lighter, which will add even more portability to the tablet. If you add these exterior changes to the proposed specs, then the next full-size iPad is shaping up to be a major refresh, something Apple needs to try and keep their tablet relevant in a more competitive market.
We expect to see the iPad 5 unveiled later this month, followed by a release shortly after. It is thought iOS 7.1 will come pre-installed on the device as well.
