Microsoft knew they had to make some key changes to their Surface range, and even though the Pro version did better in terms of sales against the RT, there was still work to do. Thankfully, Microsoft seems to have answered its critics with the announcement of the Surface Pro 2, and the early signs look good.
There are a number of improvements that makes the Surface Pro 2 a more complete device because Microsoft has tackled two keys areas, battery life and graphics. Okay, so we know performance is also a major feature and as you would expect has been improved thanks to the addition of Haswell.
The use of this new processor helps give the Surface Pro 2 better battery life, which was one of the biggest problems with its predecessor because it would last just 4.5 hours. You will be glad to know there is now a 75 percent increase in battery life, which equates to a little less than 8 hours. It’s not the best on the market for a tablet, but then we have to remember this is so much more than a tablet.
Surface Pro 2 graphics is only slightly better than its predecessor thanks to Intel HD Graphics 4400, which is a step up from the 4000. However, with this being a newer version it will have more up-to-date driver support, meaning it will play the latest games far better. A comparison of these two can be seen here.
It seems as though these improvements have gone down well with consumers, as Microsoft has said on Twitter the Surface Pro 2 and the Surface 2 have almost sold out. However, because we do not know how much stock they had in these first pre-orders, it is hard to guess the early sales figures.
