If you haven’t picked up Final Fantasy XIV yet on either PS3 or PC, you may be interested in this new and very useful graphics comparison that we have for you – comparing the two versions. It’s not the first time that we have seen these two go head to head on video, but it could be the most telling after the game has been out on shelves for a number of weeks.
It is just over one month since the game re-launched simultaneously on PC and PS3 in August. After well-documented server problems, users are now finding their sweet spot with the game and servers continue to gather in popularity.
Final Fantasy XIV is a paid MMO though which requires a subscription fee and it’s rather a big deal for this to be available on PS3 for the first time – since the original launch was PC only.
With this in mind, it may be more convenient for some to pick up the home console version, whilst at the same time contemplating obvious graphical changes from the superior PC version.
The tech sleuths over at Eurogamer’s Digial Foundry department have been analyzing the graphics between the two platforms and have provided us with an excellent look at the game running in tandem side-by-side. The images you see here give a clear example of the boost that the PC version has, although it has to be said that the PS3 doesn’t look too far behind and certainly not terrible.
Just to make it clear, the PS3 is the left hand side, whilst PC graphics are shown on the right. Can you pick both versions apart easily or do you think that it’s difficult to decide a winner? For us, the real argument isn’t really on graphics here, it’s whether you are willing to pay a monthly subscription to play the game or not.
