With the PS3 and PC versions of Final Fantasy XIV now available to buy, you may have forgotten that Sony and Square-Enix also have plans to bring a version of the game to PS4 in 2014. We now have an update on the status of the next-gen version to give you, and it’s great news for all concerned.

Square-Enix are currently in the progress of getting the beta ready for PS4 testing, with a public release likely to happen in the first few months on 2014 – no official release date has been set yet.

What we can tell you though, is that Naoki Yoshida, the director for the game has given a recent interview in Japan. He has given prospective PS4 owners a great vote of confidence, by confirming that Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 will run at 1080p resolution and at 60 fps.

This is different to the PS3 version, which currently only runs at 720p and 30fps. Even better, is that Yoshida has said that the game running on PS4 with these visuals is equivalent to those playing Final Fantasy XIV on maximum PC settings.

That’s quite a claim to make, but obviously fantastic news for those that purposefully chose to wait for the PS4 version of the game rather than pick up the PS3 copy. Having said that, we also have confirmation that picking up the PS3 game will grant you access to the PS4 version for free – so there is no harm in starting your career on the game now if you are ready to start paying subscription access.

To the PC owners reading this, are you surprised that the director of the game has compared Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 to playing the game on ‘maximum PC settings’? What setup do you currently use for the game – have any of you actually surpassed the 1080p and 60FPS limit?
