Microsoft is to hold an event on September 23, which is where we expect to hear details of the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2nd generation. Okay, so we know most of you will be interested to know what specs we are likely to see, but the price and availability will be of more importance because we know these were and still are issues for the current devices.
It is no surprise Microsoft does not want to share this information with us, but let’s face it, they are not going to make these new devices much cheaper because it is not in their nature, and so we wonder if this could come back to haunt them?
We already know the staggered released of the Surface RT and more so the Surface Pro caused a huge issue with sales, but it was the overpriced former device that caused the biggest problem for disappointing sales.
The RT name will now be dropped for the sequel and will just go by the name Surface 2, and we already have concerns with this and the Surface Pro 2 price because if we are to believe what CNET News has reported, because Microsoft could keep pricing at the current level or higher, which to us is stubbornness on their part.
Microsoft Surface 2 price is expected to be $350 for the 32GB or $500 with a cover. The 64GB version is to start at $600, which is according to sources close to Microsoft. The Surface Pro 2 price will also be similar to current models; so will start at $900, which puts it a little more expensive than the current model.
With Windows 8.1 set to be released on October 18, it is highly likely the Surface 2 and Pro sequel will be release on October 22. We will know more on the 23, which is the day of Microsoft’s Surface event.
