For years there has been a huge debate as to whether Apple would ever release a cheaper iPhone, and last Tuesday Apple gave us our answer. However, the unveiling of the iPhone 5C was a bit of a shock because it wasn’t as cheap as we had assumed, although should we really be that shocked?
The problem here is that Apple does not want to be seen as a company that makes budget devices, even if there is an allure to do so seeing as companies such as Samsung and LG are doing very well in this market. Apple had to also consider another factor, and that was not to offer an overly cheap iPhone and market it in a way to make Indian’s and Chinese feel as though they are thought of less than other parts of the world.
It is for this reason why the iPhone 5C is as high as it is, because it helps to uphold pride in India and China. However, it is not all about that though, because Apple wanted to take the current iPhone 5 make a few minor changes, yet make it look different on the outside and then be able to keep selling it.
They have been doing this with the iPhone 4S, but creating the iPhone 5C is seen by some experts in the industry as marketing genius because it makes it look as though you have a new phone that is not 2 years out of date.
Okay, so with the introduction of the iPhone 5C it gives the iPhone 5 a short life cycle, but like we said above they are very similar in the technology inside, and so it is essentially a well disguises iPhone 5.
For those who doubted the success of the iPhone 5C and not being adopted by emerging markets because of being too highly priced, then reports delivery dates of certain colors going out of stock will put doubters minds at rest. Having said that, after a few days there will be no stock of the iPhone 5S if previous years are anything to go by, with shipping already being pushed back by 2-3 weeks.
Do you think Apple has got it right with the iPhone 5C?
