Apple TV update joins iOS 7 public release

The Apple event MIA list included the Apple TV, because it was assumed they would at least bring an update after showcasing the new iPhone 5S and 5C. This means that they are still happy with the current hardware, although it is clear a refresh of the software is needed.

Apple has yet to make an official announcement about an Apple TV update, but people close to the company has said Apple will refresh the next week. This means the Apple TV software update to iOS 7 will most likely happen on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, the same day iOS 7 goes live for millions of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users.

New Apple TV features – As yet not much is known about what to expect from this much-needed update, but AllThingsD believe there is to be some fine-tuning to AirPlay. The new update will allow people who have purchased content via iTunes to play it on other peoples Apple TV by using the AirPlay system.

While this may not seem like a huge update, it is a feature users have been asking for because not having access to their own content while at a friend’s house seemed unfair. We have to wonder if Apple were forced into doing this because of increased competition from the likes of Google’s new Chromecast?

Another new feature we except to see in the upcoming Apple TV update is iTunes Radio, which we recently discussed.

iOS 7 was discussed a little more during Apple’s event on Tuesday, but not much. However, iOS 7 GM was released an hour or two after the event and has now given devs time to see what other changes have been made. We can tell you that it does seem to be more stable, and the crashing issue looks to be resolved now.
