The new iPhone 5S is due to be announced tomorrow during Apple’s event, along with its release date and iOS 7 as well. No matter what certain individuals will tell you, there will be millions of people wanting to get their hands on the 7th generation iPhone, which means there will be millions of older handsets being sold.
If you live in the UK then there are several websites offering a trade-in or recycle service for your old iPhone, or any other handset come to that, with Apple and O2 being two of the more popular choices if you wish to trade-in your iPhone 5 or other model.
However, if you were considering an iPhone 5S upgrade and already own an iPhone then we would advise to sell at O2 UK and not Apple. To give you an example we wanted to sell our black iPhone 5 32GB to O2, and they currently offered us £285.00. This is compared to Apple’s new trade-in program that will offer far less than this figure. We cannot get an exact price, but a 16GB version of the iPhone 5 is only expected to fetch around £160.
Okay, so we know that the 32GB model will fetch more, but we still expect Apple to offer you tens of pounds less than what O2 would. However, it is worth noting that if you send in your old iPhone ready for your iPhone 5S upgrade and a few marks are found, then you will be offered less than the price they quote.
What we also like about the O2 recycle program is that they give you their price and also Amazon’s next to it, and the latter offered us £22 more, but only as an Amazon gift certificate, which does limit your options.
