Samsung Galaxy S5 concept with folding specs

By Updated on

There have been a number of Samsung Galaxy S5 concept designs releasing online over the past couple of months, and while we are a while away from a release date it is nice to see the ideas. Most of these concepts focus on flexible technology and this interest is obvious considering Samsung has already shown a desire for flexible displays.

In the first half of last month we listed some of the best Samsung Galaxy S5 concept designs we had seen at that time. The range of ideas were vast and some will likely never happen thanks to a lack of thinking about what is really possible, although some were both amazing and possible for a 2014 launch.

Following that article we featured a Samsung Galaxy S5 premium design at the end of the month, which revealed a device without a removable battery. The reason given for this in the concept was metal design, but this idea led to people stating “I would rather not have a carbon fiber or metal exterior if it means no removable battery on the Galaxy S5”.

Another said, “I really don’t care about exterior materials, but the features have to be top notch”. There has been a pattern for a few years that a lot of Samsung smartphone owners prefer top specs rather than a metal finish, but would you agree with that in 2013/2014?

New Samsung Galaxy S5 concept with folding design – on this page you can see a new concept design that includes some really cool specs, although most notable is the folding feature. You can see more pictures and details about this design on Mobi Leaks.

It should be noted that some people reacted to design with distaste, although this is due to not wanting to see “a line down the middle of the phone screen”. This assumption would be wrong thanks to flexible technology that is already possible and would be needed for this Samsung Galaxy S5 concept.

Others are more practical with their thoughts on the folding idea. While it would be great to offer a phablet sized phone that fits in small pockets, some people think a folding phone is “just asking to be broken” and they would rather have something more solid.

I definitely think the folding design would be amazing! The new OLED screen they designed is actually capable of being dropped and not break; they explained that at the… what was it, xda conference thing? Anyway, they made it capable of folding right in half, that’s 180°! I’m sure it would be safe, albeit I am very uncertain considering the phone’s structure is very compact and heavy with a metal casing so I really do hope the foldable screen can withstand that kind of force.
