Pokemon X and Y on 2DS without 3D mode

By Updated on

Now that Nintendo has made a surprise announcement by unveiling the 2DS handheld, those who are planning to pick up Pokemon X and Y now have an interesting decision to make. Do you buy a 3DS to play Pokemon X and Y with 3D enabled, or do you now take up Nintendo’s $129.99 offer to play Pokemon X and Y with 2D visuals only?

Since Nintendo has already set a 2DS launch date of October 12, it’s clear that they have made this move to coincide with the release of Pokemon X and Y as well – the game with arguably the biggest hardware selling potential of all upcoming 3DS releases this year.

Zelda: A Link between Worlds could be another hardware seller, but it’s all about Pokemon X and Y in our opinion and Nintendo probably senses it too. $129.99 is a very reasonable price, most can agree on that. Then again, current 3DS owners may argue that the 2DS is a bit pointless to them, when they can simply just switch off their 3D switch to effectively have the same features.

We’re still very surprised that Nintendo has decided to move away from the clamshell design, in favor of a slate design which doesn’t appear to have gone down well with fans so far. Having said that, Nintendo are not stupid so they would have obviously chosen this design and price point with the idea that it will still sell very well when the likes of Pokemon X and Y, Zelda A Link between Worlds and Super Smash Bros all release.

Let us know what you plan to do if you are yet to buy a Nintendo 3DS. Will you still go 3DS, or are you not too bothered with the 3D option and will now prefer to play in 2D with the 2DS?
