O2 and Vodafone launch 4G Mobile with 5M coverage

By Updated on

Having already learned that O2 was to launch their 4G data service at the same time as Vodafone, we can now report that the service has now been switched on, giving 4G mobile coverage to 5M customers.

The new O2 4G coverage covers London, Leeds and Bradford, and is expected to allow 5 million of their customers the chance to experience these new faster speeds, with a compatible smartphone of course.

The new Vodafone 4G coverage for the UK will only include parts of London for now, although both networks plan to extend this to a further 13 cities, all of which can be found on Sky News.

While the O2 and Vodafone 4G coverage map will only show a small percentage at first, it is their hope that they will be able to offer 98 percent of the UK with 4G coverage. However, there is no getting away from the fact that the big players were caught sleeping and allowed EE to beat them to the new 4G service last October.

Getting this faster service is certainly great news, but there are still parts of the country that cannot get a decent O2 3G coverage, with Vodafone offering a much better service. It is annoying because they should try to work on their current service, and make it better for their loyal customers.

O2 and Vodafone 4G cost – While it is a nice idea to have this faster data service, there is no getting away from the fact that it will cost you more than your current 3G service. Both networks do offer a few incentives for you to sign up, but you have to weigh up the cost up to see if it is worth your while. O2 4G price can be found here and Vodafone 4G price here.

In December we will see the launch of the Three 4G service, and what makes this so exciting is the fact the network has said they will not charge any extra for the service.
