PS Vita hardware constraints for Gran Turismo 6

While the hype and expectation for Gran Turismo is starting to become unbearable for some, there still is a great amount of excitement over constant rumors that a PS Vita version of Gran Turismo 6 will be on the way. Unfortunately though, it looks like Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida is the bearer of bad news this week, revealing that such a likelihood is not going to happen anytime soon.

Gran Turismo 6 has already been confirmed for a December 6 release – on PS3 only though, no next-gen PS4 release sadly. Prior to the announcement of the game, it was heavily expected that a handheld version would be available.

However, Mr Yoshida has given an open insight into the situation, by honestly explaining that the PS Vita hardware may have some problems running the full game. This is due to GT6 maximizing PS3 hardware and although the PS Vita is a very capable system, Yoshida-san has said that it would be ‘really hard to move GT6 onto PS Vita’.

He also said to IGN that he ‘doesn’t expect the whole game to run on PS Vita’, suggesting that if a version does come eventually – it would have to be a heavily stripped down version to get it running on the PS Vita hardware.

What are your thoughts on this? We’ve seen PS3-esque games like Killzone Mercenary running on the PS Vita just fine, but do you agree that GT6 would be something of a stretch for the portable handheld?

Then again, if we look at the likes of Super Smash Bros being developed for the Nintendo 3DS, should we expect GT6 to run in some form or another on the Vita? Give us your thoughts on the apparent lack of hardware muscle for Sony’s handheld.
