We are slowly moving toward that magical September 17 release date for GTA V and for those who are planning to buy a digital download of GTA V from the PlayStation Store, we have some important news for you. Rockstar has confirmed that the digital version of the game will be available at the first opportunity on September 17, but we’re also hearing that you won’t be able to pre-load the game sadly.
Many gamers just like to buy all their games digitally, from the comfort of their own living room without having to endure any queues that a game of this size usually generates. The digital release of GTA V is set to be a very hot product indeed and Rockstar has cleared up a few details for those planning to buy it direct from the store.
The good news, is that the digital version is going to be available to download at midnight on September 17. This will ensure that you (hopefully) get to play the game on day one – the same day as everyone else picking up the disc version.
We say hopefully, as there won’t be a pre-load service available like we see with most Steam games. Given the sheer size of GTA V, it also means Sony’s servers are going to be taking an inevitable pounding, with thousands of gamers having to download a game which is likely to be a considerable amount of GBs in size – at the same time from midnight onwards.
Just think about that for a second. Everyone heading to the PS Store at midnight on September 17 and pressing the huge download at the same time. Let’s hope Sony are making preparations about this and can handle the huge traffic that will be coming their way after midnight.
We’ll let you know when we get the confirmed install size for the digital version, but in the meantime let us know if this is the method you are planning to take to get GTA V.
