Minecraft on console has long been an Xbox exclusive. There had been some rumors creeping in that Sony were looking to make a change to this and at GamesCom 2013 this week, we can finally bring you the news that many had sought for so long. Minecraft is not only on the way to the next-gen PS4, but there are also plans to develop a version for PS3 and the PS Vita handheld as well.
Forgetting the PS3 and PS4 versions for a second we actually think that Minecraft for PS Vita could be a massive game changer for Sony. It could be the one game that hands down sells thousands more PS Vita units and arguably the Minecraft version that most fans will want to play above any other platform.
Minecraft on the lovely new PS4 would obviously be fantastic this Holiday season, but then again you also can’t beat how enjoyable it would be going about your daily duties on the 5-inch OLED screen. With Sony’s GamesCom presser now wrapped up, we can tell that the PS4 version of Minecraft is going to be available as a launch title.
There’s no word on if the PS Vita version will follow, but don’t forget that the PS4 version may be playable straight away on Vita anyway using Remote Play. The big question that everyone is now looking for, is whether the PS4 version will be similar to the Xbox One Edition, or if Notch has worked some magic to actually get the game on par with the more rewarding PC version.
It will be the same situation on handheld as well. Will the PS Vita version be a fully fledged port of Minecraft on to the smaller screen, or will we just see a rehash of the Pocket Edition that is currently available on mobile? Hopefully it won’t be too long until we can give you some of these answers.
For now, give us your reaction and expectations for Minecraft finally arriving on PlayStation.
