The biggest reveal of Sony’s GamesCom press conference may have been the confirmation of a PS4 Europe and US release date, but for us we were very impressed with the opening dialogue of the event, in which Shuhei Yoshida proceeded to give us an somewhat unique but definitely awesome new insight into the PS4 dynamic user interface.
If you tuned into GamesCom live, you would know exactly what we’re talking about – the main man just sitting there on stage in an armchair, quietly going about his business as he effortlessly checks out the new PlayStation Live feature of the PS4. If you missed it, fear not as we have the full segment to show you again, courtesy of Sony who has already uploaded the clip to their official YouTube channel.
Aside from giving us a brand new look at the latest build of the interface that previously hasn’t been seen, we also witness a particularly awesome moment where Shuhei watches a live match of Killzone Shadow Fall that his friend is playing. After watching, we see a wait of perhaps 10 seconds and then just like that, you are thrust straight into the same stage of the game that a friend is playing – no need to visit any menus or anything beforehand. It was truly impressive stuff.
If Sony can manage to pull this feature off as it happened live at GamesCom, across any PS4 title, then we have a feeling that it could become a massive selling point of the PS4. We then see further evidence in the video of the PS4’s ability to capture a short gameplay clip or screenshot and then instantly send it off to various social media spaces.
The interface itself looks very polished compared to the XMB on the PS3 and quite frankly we can’t wait to see more of it up close and personal. Check out the video yourself and let us know what you thought of the moment Yoshida instantly joined a live Killzone match.
