While BlackBerry may be pressing forward to move with the times and release a barrage of touch-screen enabled BB10-based devices, there are still a legion of consumers who prefer BlackBerry’s old school format of physical QWERTY based devices. If this relates to you, you’ll be pleased to hear that BlackBerry still has plans to cater for those that are looking to stick with the classic option.
The focus may be on BlackBerry 10 at the moment, but we have confirmation that BlackBerry plan to announce a new device in 2013 that will still run on BlackBerry OS 7.1. That device is going to be called the 9720 and it already has a code name of ‘Samoa’. Thanks to the guys at EVLeaks once again we now have clear press images of the BB 9720, which suggest that the device could be close to an official announcement.
It looks like it is going to be as simple as it gets, with a QWERTY keyboard and a small display screen that is thought to have a 480×360 resolution. The design will be similar to the classic Bold devices that you may still be in possession of, but will still come with some modern touches such as a dedicated BBM messenger button and a rear camera to ensure that you’ll still be able to shoot some vital images.
There’s no information on processor, the quality of camera or storage yet, but don’t expect anything too top of the range considering that this isn’t a BlackBerry 10 device. What you can expect to see though is a price that will relate to the bare bone features of the device, so it could be perfect for consumers who would like a new BlackBerry device but don’t want to pay over the odds for one.
Expect more information on specs as we get it. For now, give us your initial thoughts on this new BB7-based device. Anybody interested in this or not?
