For most of the year we had been speculating on what sort of device Google and Motorola will come up with, we assumed it had to be something special because of continued pressure that made Google purchase Motorola in the first place. We’re not sure how it started, but the X Phone was born.
The Google or Motorola X Phone was going to be many things, and so could have been the phone to take on Samsung and their Galaxy range, and possibly the iPhone, which we discussed on a number of occasions. However, there was a concern that the new X Phone could also hurt Nexus 7 sales, and that’s when we knew Google would be taking a backseat, as they don’t want to upset the likes of ASUS, LG and Samsung.
An announcement was made by Motorola saying the name of the new Android smartphone will be the Moto X, and thankfully, a few days ago news spread that the Moto X Phone unveiling will be on August 1. It’s then that our questions will be answered, such as its design, specs, price and more importantly, its release date. Also, we have no idea if it will be a high-end or mid-range handset, but some recent news points to the latter.
Motorola’s Moto X tablet release bewilderment – What we find strange in all this is what has happened to the rumored Motorola X tablet, as all rumors seems to have come to a complete stop? Because we had assumed Motorola X would be the start of a new range, a tablet would be an obvious choice as well, considering the fact that the company has not had a good track record with tablets, and so we assumed they would address this.
There had been rumors that Motorola was to push the envelop in terms of hardware, and the X Phone and X Tablet would be the best was out there. We had assumed the new tablet would have been engineered from the ground up so that it was able to fully support Android apps, and would have meant Google working closely with app developers.
However, because it now seems they are taking that backseat approach, the X Tablet might be a thing of the past, unless Motorola surprise us on August 1, 2013 and unveil the Moto X Phone and Moto X Tablet, and maybe a Moto X Mini, well these smaller handsets are all the rage of late, just ask Samsung, HTC and of course, Motorola.
