Google has already tried before to take on the Apple TV, and now it seems they are having another go at it, but this time they are going about it in a completely different way, but how does it compare to its rivals?
The new device is called Chromecast, and Google not only has to try and compete with Apple TV, but also Roku as well. Each device has their pros and cons, but Google’s digital receiver has a little trick up its sleeve, the price, which we’ll get to in a moment.
When choosing such a device the most important feature is not really its price, but rather content, as most of us know, content is king. However, it also needs to be quality, because if the consumers doesn’t like what you have to offer, then you might as well give up now.
Roku wins the content round because it has a huge selection to choose from, but we do find it strange why they would leave YouTube out? Apple TV comes in a decent second place for content, but it does lack Amazon Instant Video.
Google’s Chromecast comes in last because there is not a great deal of content to choose from, such as Google Play movies and TV shows, Google Music, Netflix and YouTube. We know it’s missing Pandora, but it was announced that this service will be coming soon.
However, Google’s Chromecast price is just $35, compared to the Roku price starting at $49.99, but does increase to $99.99. Apple TV will set you back $99.
While Roku does seem to do well in both content and price, Apple TV is still a better choice, and we should give Chromecast a chance because it’s early days, and we know how Google can make something good if they put their mind to it.
