We talked about how good the Nintendo 3DS is doing at the moment thanks to great software availability, but now it looks like we have some stats to back it up. As confident as ever, Nintendo has come out and revealed that their 3DS handheld is currently outselling the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 consoles in the UK.
It’s no secret that consumers in the UK are big fans of Nintendo’s handheld and we’re guessing that the recent sales success is largely due to excellent and addictive games such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf – which received stellar reviews upon release.
Now, we hear from Nintendo’s UK consumer marketing head James Honeywell who has said that the Nintendo 3DS “is really doing the numbers right now.” When speaking to MCV, he added that “software sells hardware” and that the 3DS is now the format of the moment.
The great news for 3DS owners, is that the year is set to get even better. Nintendo will be dropping both Pokemon X and Y and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in 2013 – two games that have hardware sellers written all over it. Is it slightly worrying at the same time though that we are not hearing the same success story with the PS Vita?
Sony’s PS Vita badly needs some major games for owners to play, as we can’t think off the top of our heads on one game that could come close to matching the likes of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Final Fantasy X HD perhaps – that’s all we’ve got.
