2013 is a very strange year for Apple, as they have yet to offer a release of a major device, because this time last year they had already released the iPad 3. However, because they also released the iPad 4 in the same year, albeit 6 months later, this means by the time Apple release the iPhone 5S it would have been around 10 months since a major device was released.
This is a huge issue not only for Apple, but third-party accessory makers as well. It’s obvious that some of you will now been putting off purchasing a new iPhone or iPad because they would rather wait for the new models to come out, as we’re just two months away from Apple’s next-gen smartphone, well as far as we know anyway.
However, this iPhone 5S and iPad 5 eagerness is having an adverse affect on sales of cases, with Otterbox already revealing that this Apple release drought so far this year has been affecting their sales. Mashable reports the reason for this is because for years Otterbox has heavily backed Apple, and it’s only recently that they have started to offer more cases for Android devices.
The case maker is not staying too downbeat though, as they know once Apple releases the iPhone 5S in September (hopefully) and the iPad 5 more than likely in November, then sales will see a huge increase. Having said that, there could also be the release of the iPad mini 2 in October, which could also help Otterbox case sales?
While Apple haters will see this as a huge failure for Apple not releasing anything majorly new in almost a year, there’s a positive side to it as well. Having new devices releasing towards the end of the year, and so closer to the Holiday Season will surely help improve sales, rather than releasing new devices just three months after, as this is a time when consumers have less disposal income?
Speaking of the iPhone and iPad, we recently learned that Apple has been testing a larger iPhone and iPad, although we’re a little skeptical of this news, but what are your thoughts?
