You have to love the 2014 Spark EV marketing, as they have been trying to get across to potential buyers some of the good points about this green vehicle, one of which is its performance figures. For most of you this would seem very normal, and it is, but it’s what they compare the vehicle to that has us amazed.
2014 Chevrolet Spark EV vs. Ferrari 458 Italia – In the commercial we’re told that there is a way to give up gas without having to give up performance, and that’s by choosing the Spark EV because it has 400-pound-feet of torque, which is said to be more than the Ferrari 458 Italia, and all with no emissions.
We cannot fault them for this marketing, because it’s a good thing to focus on, and they are telling the truth, it really does have that amount of torque. However, don’t expect a drag race between the two to go any way other than the Ferrari. The Spark takes 7.6 seconds to get from 0-60 mph, whereas the 458 Italia will do it in 3 seconds.
Chevy Spark EV performance – Chevrolet has done what no other electric car maker has done so far, apart from Tesla of course, and that’s make an EV that is very quick, and maybe this is an area where other car manufacturers now need to focus on? It’s all very well knowing the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV range figures, but focusing on it’s other positive, its performance is great marketing.
Okay, so we know that it is just ludicrous to compare the Spark EV to the Ferrari 458 Italia, but you have to admire Chevrolet. Come on, look at all the other things these vehicles have in common, they have four wheels, they require a driver and even two doors.
