July’s PS Plus free games offering could have been the best yet, with many still pleasantly surprised that Sony decided to offer up Battlefield 3, completely free as part of the Instant Game Collection. That offer is sadly coming to end, but you’ll be pleased to hear that we now have confirmation of the free games that will come in the August 2013 PS Plus update, for those with a EU subscription.
To get the good news out of the way first, the big game that is going to be offered in August is EA’s Need for Speed Most Wanted. It’s made by Criterion Games, the developers who handled the Burnout series so expect some frantic action and plenty of destruction if that’s your kind of racing game.
Also coming is Mafia 2 and Spec Ops: The Line, all three of which come at no extra cost as part of the Instant Game Collection. If you are a current subscriber, simply look out for the new games on July 31 when they should become available. For PS Vita owners, you can look forward to seeing Lego: The Lord of the Rings and When Vikings Attack – not great we agree, but at least it’s something.
Remember that these are the games confirmed for EU PS Plus only. We still don’t have confirmation yet about what games will be available in August for those with a US subscription. Hopefully the games are just as good or if not even better. Hopes are definitely high though if Sony can bring the likes of Battlefield 3 to the table.
What are your thoughts on Need For Speed Most Wanted, Mafia 2 and Spec Ops: The Line – are you satisfied with this list or not?
