2014 Toyota Highlander marketing gets negative review

By Updated on

We’ve seen some strange marketing in our time, but the one between Toyota and Nickelodeon has to be one of the strangest. We say this because while we expect the 2014 Toyota Highlander marketing to be much of the same as we have seen over the years for the car manufacturer and their advertising partners, someone thought it would be a good idea to cover the SUV with a custom SpongeBob SquarePants exterior.

It’s clear to see that the marketing genius in charge of this project has been holding his or her breath too long in Bikini Bottom – come on it’s a tragedy to see such a vehicle with an exterior like that. Although, we’re sure that some of you will suggest it takes something like this to make the new Highlander look half-decent.

This is a one-of-a-kind model and was only released a couple of days ago during the Padres vs. Giants game in San Diego, California. However, maybe we should give the marketing department the benefit of the doubt, as we are sure that there will be loads of kids asking their parents to go and see the 2014 Toyota Highlander, just because of it’s wacky exterior, and so also gives those parents a chance to see what all the fuss is about.

Happy Driving Campaign – This is just the start of things, as the vehicle will be on show in a total of seven locations, with one of them being the LA Auto Show later this year.

You have to wonder if using SpongeBob was the right direction to go in, because while the character is still popular, there are other popular cartoons on our TVs that would have been a far popular choice for Toyota to use as part of their marketing campaign, but who would you have used?

I know it’s totally an old cartoon, but it’s a classic! I would love to see a Scooby Doo version!
