It was only a few days ago that we told you that US retailer GameStop had completely sold out of their initial PS4 allocation, no longer being able to promise consumers a console on launch day. Now it appears that Amazon are in the very same situation, as the company has sent out a statement saying that both their PS4 and Xbox One launch packages are completely sold out as well.
It’s a massive sigh of relief for those who have obviously already ordered either console, but at the same time worrying news for those that intended to hold on just a little longer in the likelihood of some cheaper bundles becoming available. Demand was obviously going to be incredibly high for both the Xbox One and PS4, but with both consoles seemingly due out in November, it looks like both may now be completely sold out by the end of July.
Amazon has now sent out word via their Facebook page to inform everyone that their launch listings for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles are now sold out. Consumers can still continue to pre-order either the Xbox One and PS4, but now it looks like you won’t be able to have delivery confirmed for the day one launch.
The changes are now active on their website as well, as you’ll see that the Xbox One Day One package is currently unavailable, while the PS4 launch edition now redirects users to the standard edition instead. We don’t want to raise the panic alarm just yet, but considering we’re only at July – is it an indication that Microsoft and Sony are going to have big problems keeping up with demand?
Also take into consideration that we haven’t even had confirmed launch dates for both consoles yet, which is perhaps one factor that prevented many consumers from ordering. What are your thoughts on Amazon now selling out of launch PS4 and Xbox One units? Do you already have yours reserved, or are you happy to pick up a console in 2014 instead?
