Fans of original Wii U horror game ZombiU are in for a huge disappointment now, as it looks like there is no chance of a sequel game coming out for the Wii U in the future. Ubisoft has revealed that the game didn’t even make a profit and it almost justifies why the company chose to take Rayman Legends multiplatform, rather than risk the same fate happen twice.
If you played ZombiU first hand, you may be surprised to hear that the game did not make a profit for Ubisoft, as we thought it was a great game. The unique survival based game produced some generally favorable reviews, including a 9/10 from the usually stubborn Eurogamer, but it appears that Ubisoft has already sealed the game’s fate.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed that ZombiU ‘was not even close to a profit’ and as a direct result, there is no plans or even a desire to push forward with an immediate sequel. We all remember ZombiU being hyped up to the max prior to the game’s release, but it is definitely sad to hear that it looks like no sequel is coming any time soon.
We mentioned Rayman Legends above, as the game was initially a WiiU exclusive before recently becoming a multiplatform game on every platform under the sun. We wonder if there was a big chance that the poor fortunes of ZombiU ultimately contributed to the decision on bringing Rayman Legends to other platforms as well – as it would be disastrous for Ubisoft if Rayman Legends suffered the same fate from a business perspective.
It also makes us a little concerned as to how the future of Bayonetta 2 will end up. If Wii U sales of the exclusive end up tanking, does that mean we can kiss goodbye to a possible Bayonetta 3 as well? If you played and loved ZombiU, let us know your thoughts on the fact that it didn’t even make a profit.
