If you are looking forward to the glorious return and release of Killer Instinct on the Xbox One, we have a gameplay video for you to watch now. Along with this, we have one key piece of information to give you which you may have missed during the hectic E3 2013 activities.
As most of you may know, Killer Instinct was already in playable form on Microsoft’s showfloor and also for select press who were lucky enough to have a very early gameplay demo using the two initial characters unveiled so far – Jago and Saberwulf. You know that the classic ultras are going to feature in the game, but what you may not know is that this time the ultra system has been crafted in a way, to which it will actually be possible for players to combine multiple ultras at once.
We can tell you that you will now be able to perform a cancel midway through an ultra, go back into a standard combo with your character and then go back into ultra mode once again for a massive combo. This was obviously not possible on the legendary SNES original, but it looks like the Xbox One hardware now adds that greater sense of sophistication when performing your combos.
To give you an example of how this will work, watch the end of the video which we have provided for you below. You’ll see lead producer from Double Helix gamers Mike Willette demonstrate what this will look like when using Saberwulf. The result is a monster combo that the other player can do nothing about and there’s even a hint in the video that more than two ultras could be possible at a later stage.
The combo in this video reaches a whopping 73 hits, but we’re guessing this will easily pass the 100 hit mark once some of the experts really start to get comfortable with the game. Expect to see more of Killer Instinct at the EVO championships, but in the meantime let us know your thoughts on the ability to cancel ultras and re-enter ultra mode for a big finish.
