Final Fantasy X HD new content on PS3, PS Vita

We have some great news for those of you planning to pick up Final Fantasy X HD at the end of the year, as it looks like Square-Enix has given yet another example on how this game is far from just a simple HD remaster. We now have confirmation that Square-Enix will be taking the extra time to insert a new 30 minute episode into the game which previously hasn’t been seen before.

Final Fantasy X HD is also due out on PS Vita along with PS3, but unfortunately Square-Enix is still unwilling to commit to a solid release date other than ‘later this year’. We’re guessing this crucial information may come during Tokyo Game Show 2013 in September, but in the meantime we still have to endure gradual information drops from weekly Japanese magazines.

This time, we have word from Shounen Jump magazine via Siliconera that a new 30 minute episode will feature at the end of Final Fantasy X HD, during the game’s credits. Details are at a minimum at the moment, but it seems to us that this could be 30 minutes worth of dramatic cutscenes and new voice work, rather than 30 minutes of actual new gameplay.

While this would be disappointing if true, it is still refreshing to see Square-Enix go the extra mile and provide fans with new content from the PS2 original of any variety. Having new voice work in the game from the original actors must have been quite a challenging task as well for Square-Enix, so bear that in mind.

Hopefully Square-Enix will disclose full details of what this new 30 minute scene entails soon. It would be nice if some extra gameplay is included, but we wouldn’t mind a nice long cutscene added on top either – what do you think? Are you now thankful that Square-Enix are taking their time with the game, if it means extra content like this?

Very thankful! I was extremely excited just to be getting a remaster of FF X on the PS3, then they add X-2, then I believe they’re adding the international versions, and now this! I CAN’T WAIT!!!
