We have some great news for PS Vita RPG fans now, as it looks like a fairly big game from Square-Enix is set for a release on Sony’s handheld in 2013. Chaos Rings is a game that has proved to be a huge hit among fans on iOS devices. Now, we can confirm that Square-Enix are bringing the game to the PlayStation Mobile platform, which means in turn that it will be playable on PS Vita as well.
Before you all say that it isn’t a true PS Vita RPG from the ground up as such, we also have confirmation from Japanese publication Famitsu that Chaos Rings for PlayStation Mobile has been optimized for gameplay specifically on the PS Vita’s 5-inch OLED display – good enough for us.
The game has been developed by Media Vision who you may be familiar with from the Wild Arms series, but character design has been handled by Yusuke Naora who is the same person responsible for character design on the famed Final Fantasy VII and VIII titles. It means that Chaos Rings definitely shouldn’t be ignored as a low quality JRPG, but rather a game that could provide PS Vita owners with the great RPG experience that they have been waiting for since buying the system at launch.
Unfortunately, it looks like a Japanese version will be out first this Summer, with no confirmation of an English version just yet. We’re hoping Media Vision and Square-Enix can get working hard on the game though so that a Western edition is available before the end of the year. After all, it could be the game that buys Square-Enix many more months, from widespread criticism over the lack of a Final Fantasy PS Vita game – not including the HD remake of FFX.
It may be a good idea to check out some gameplay videos of the iOS version of Chaos Rings and see what you think. Many fans are already saying that it is their favorite mobile RPG ever, so it is definitely worth keeping an eye on PS Vita development for the game.
Have you played Chaos Rings before? If so, let us know your thoughts on hearing that a PS Vita version will soon be available, optimized on that lovely 5-inch OLED display.
