GTA V Xbox 360 disc differences vs PS3

By Updated on

We have some important news for those of you planning to pick up the Xbox 360 version of GTA V now. Rockstar has answered some of the most requested queries over on their website, revealing that the Xbox 360 version of GTA V will ship with two discs. Fortunately though, you won’t need to keep switching discs for the game, thanks to some nifty installation procedures that will ease up some of the hassle for you.

It’s no secret that publishers always have to go the extra mile in making sure heavy content games are doable on the Xbox 360. This often involves multiple DVD discs compared to a single Blu-Ray on PS3, but lately we have seen developers make use of mandatory installations to make sure that multiple disc switching isn’t required any more despite the memory constraints.

We’re pleased to say that this will also be the case for GTA V on the Xbox 360. Rockstar has confirmed that the game will need two discs, but you will be able to play on one disc for the whole duration of the game after installation. This will work by the player installing an 8GB file onto their HDD from the first disc.

After you have done that, you’ll then be able to insert disc 2 and play through the whole game without the need for any further switching. At the same time, Rockstar has also confirmed that GTA V will ship on a single Blu-Ray disc. Another 8GB install will be needed on PS3, but again you’ll be able to play through the whole game on the same disc once that install is finished.

So there we have it, very good news for Xbox 360 users we feel. We knew that this would be the biggest GTA game to date with the map size bigger than previous games combined. Because of this, we would have expected GTA V to ship on up to four discs, but now we know that won’t be the case.

Let us know your thoughts on this. Are you happy with the 8GB install requirement or would you have actually preferred to switch discs?
