General Motors has been rather guarded when it comes to the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 performance figures, but a few days ago estimates for the performance package for the C7 were released, and the figures look rather promising when compared against previous Vette models.
According to the latest figures the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray complete with the Z51 performance package will go from 0.60 mph in around 3.8 seconds and will cover a quarter-mile in 12 seconds while achieving a speed of 119 mph. This is all thanks to its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine, which produces 460 horsepower.
That’s not all, as the 2014 version of the Corvette Stingray is expected to go from 60 mph to a complete stop in 107 feet, and as a result will produce 1.03 g in lateral acceleration.
Above you will find a comparison of the estimated 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 performance figures against the 2013 Corvette ZR1, 2012 Corvette Grand Sport, and the 2011 Corvette Z06 Z07. As you can see the new model does not do as well in certain tests, but then we’re told that these manufacturer performance estimates are always less than actual figures.
There’s always the argument that there is no need to have such fast cars, although on the other side of the argument, these super fast vehicles have far superior braking than standard vehicles, and so even traveling at normal speeds will be able to come to a complete stop far quicker, making the likes of the new C7 far safer than your standard sedan or hatchback.
The Z51 performance package does not give you much more power output from the engine, but rather an improved traction control system, and Magnetic Ride Control for $2,800. However, if you want to get a small power increase, then you can do so by opting for the $1,195 performance exhaust. While both these will take your C7 to $57,785, it’s still far cheaper than its German rivals, although it’s worth noting that there is a premium price for the 2014 Corvette Stingray in Europe, which would put the price more on par with the likes of the Porsche 911.
