Proton Saga SV re-ignites new model hope for future

The launch of the Proton Saga SV has a huge weight on its shoulders, because the release of this vehicle has re-ignited hopes of a new model, and it needs to happen soon because the future of Proton Holdings Bhd is hanging in the balance, and it’s clear that local residents are not happy with how things have been handled up until now.

Interest in the country is pretty low at the moment, and the only way to help boost their market share is to introduce a new model, even though they recently released the Proton Saga SV. However, this model suffers the same issue as the Toyota Corolla, and that’s the fact that it is based on a design now several years old.

Toyota, realized that something needed to be done, and so unveiled the all-new 2014 Toyota Corolla, but we’re not certain this would be enough for Proton Holdings Bhd, and so a brand new model would be a far better option, because if not the brand could fail.

Proton cars have not faired too well when compared to its local rival Perodua, as 2012 sales for each were 141,120 and 189,137 respectively.

It does seem strange how a company that has been going since the 80s has not been able to maintain a foothold, especially when you consider how many years other Asian auto manufactures have been going. There are those who would suggest that it is over for Proton, and a good thing to, as the vehicles they produce have been rubbish. However, we should not count them out, because look at Kia.

We mentioned Kia because this South Korean company has been going since 1944, but has only been enjoying its great success over the past five years or so, as they have a new outlook on how they approach the design of their vehicles, that and being taken over by Hyundai was a great help.

What Proton needs is a new injection of talent, and a new philosophy on design and business, only then can they move forward and produce vehicles the public wants.
