When Apple released the iPad mini, it was a first for the company, as they gave their customers a more affordable alternative to the full-size version, and because it was cheaper a few sacrifices had to be made. It would have been silly for Apple to offer things like a Retina display on their smaller tablet, because it would cost a little more, and they never knew if consumers would warm to the smaller iPad.

Thankfully, this is not an issue now because the iPad mini has been a success, and so we look ahead to the second-generation model, and if what has been reported is true, then Samsung could be key to the iPad mini 2 success, as they may be supplying the 7.9-inch Retina display, along with the 9.7-inch display for the upcoming iPad 5 as well.

However, Samsung will not be the only suppler of these Retina displays, as it was recently reported that LG Display were to help supply Apple as well, which we are sure would be a far better relationship, as things between Apple and Samsung are even more strained now.

LG has been increasing its supply of displays to Apple, and it’s only a matter of time before they become the suppler of choice for the iPad Retina display. However, Apple will need both companies, as demand for the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 is expected to be very high, once released in October the earliest.

We have to wonder why Apple does not buy a company who builds displays, such as Panasonic, although it seems rather clear that they do not wish to own any factories? It’s just strange that Apple wants to distance themselves from Samsung, yet if the rumor is true, they are still staying close to them, something that Fandroids will find very amusing.
