With production for the new 2013 Mercedes S-Class now underway, and that first orders will start to appear in showrooms from July 20, we also thought you might like to know that the company has confirmed there will be 5 variants.

The 5 new Mercedes S-Class models are to include the Coupe, Convertible, Pullman, and the previously mentioned short-wheelbase and extended wheelbase. Having such a range for the new S-Class is certain to help its success, as it gives potential customers a far-greater choice.

Mercedes-Benz needs the all-new model to do well, as they have invested a huge sum of money into the new production facilities. The German auto manufacturer has spent around $1.3 billion in all, such as $173 million in the press shop, $466 million in the body shop, $93 million in the assembly line, as well as an undisclosed figure to put workers through training in order to acquaint themselves with the new equipment to help build the new C-Class.

The new 2014 model has some big shoes to fill, as it will need to follow in a long tradition of being at the forefront in technological innovation in the auto industry, so will the new model be able to raise the bar once more, or will it now be much tougher for them? Don’t be put off by its similar looks to the outgoing model, and there have been a number of changes under the skin.

We’ve included a video below so that you can familiarize yourself with the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and to see just what new technology has been incorporated into the 2014 model. It’s not a review, but just an informative video, so if you want to learn more about the technology then we’re afraid you will have to put up with the boring narrator.
