If you watched Sony’s E3 2013 press conference live, you may have been under the impression that the announcement and unveiling of Kingdom Hearts 3 was due to the game being released as a PS4 exclusive. However, Square-Enix set the record straight a mere 24 hours after Sony’s event by confirming that the game will also be coming to the Xbox One.
As a result, this will mark the debut of a Kingdom Hearts game coming to a Microsoft system. Previously, we have seen Kingdom Hearts on either Sony or Nintendo systems, but Square-Enix is now planning to let Microsoft get in on the act as well. While Sony fans may not be too happy about this, it’s great that everyone can now enjoy what is obviously going to be an amazing game – together.
Hopefully we won’t see any timed-exclusive content for Kingdom Hearts 3 that is set on one specific console either – Square Enix, we hope you’re listening. Also take into account that PS3 gamers are also getting an exclusive with Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, so perhaps Square-Enix took that into consideration as well in their decision to bring the game to Xbox One as well.
At E3, Square-Enix revealed a trailer for the game, which many thought initially was to advertise 1.5 HD remix. Instead, Square-Enix shocked everyone by not only revealing Kingdom Hearts 3, but even showing some actual gameplay footage as well. Kingdom Hearts is a franchise that remains massively popular with consumers, so hopefully we’ll hear some further information on the game at the Tokyo Game Show in September – an expo where Square-Enix could also show off new footage for Final Fantasy XV.
What are your initial thoughts on Square-Enix bringing the game to Xbox One? Do you blame them for going multiplatform, or was this expected seeing as Final Fantasy XV is now releasing on Xbox One as well? Previously Versus XIII was a PS3 exclusive remember.
