Future Google Maps update with Waze features

By Updated on

You might be wondering why Google Waze has been appearing all over the Internet over the past few days? This is because the search engine has added another company to their portfolio, and there are several reasons as to why they have done such a thing, one of which could be to help improve Google Maps.

Google Maps update with Waze features – It’s possibly that the reason why Google decided to purchase Waze, was because they might want to include this feature in a future update for their mapping service. Okay, so we know that Google Maps already has a pretty reliable service for sharing traffic congestion to its users.

However, Google Maps also lacks in other key areas, which could be a huge benefit to its users if they were included. Waze allows users to report accidents, if roads are blocked, if there are police in the area and even speed cameras, all of which would be a great addition to Google Maps.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, there are several other reasons why Google decided to purchase Waze. Firstly, they may have bought the Israeli company just to stop the likes of Apple purchasing it and improving their Apple Maps service, which by the way did not get a mention during the iOS 7 keynote on Monday.

Another reason could be to offer Android users an alternative to Google Maps, and so could keep the Waze service up and running, instead of assimilating it into Google Maps. Finally, Google may have purchased Waze just to replicate its user engagement and then use it in some of their other services, but what Google service will benefit from Waze’s user engagement most?

Whatever happens, making use of Waze’s patents, user-base and also its technology is another step for Google to maintain market dominance.
