Apple kept up the onslaught of announcements during WWDC yesterday by talking about how they intend to integrate iOS 7 into cars; with something they’re calling iOS in the Car. This upcoming feature will allow a car’s in-dash screen to mirror what is happening on your iPhone.

The list of cars, or manufacturers that will support this new feature will not include Ford, which is no real surprise. This is because they use the Ford Sync system, which is in partnership with Microsoft. Okay, so we know why they would want to make this choice, but we’re sure there is some Ford owners who would much rather use iOS in Car, because it will be more compliant with their iPhones.

The display that you will see on your in-dash screen will not be a perfect mirror of the iPhone, as they are different dimensions, but the new service will be auto-optimized in order to look like a working version of iOS 7.

Most vehicles sold today will already offer support, and the likes of Honda, Mercedes, Chevy, Nissan, Infiniti, Ferrari, Kia and more will make certain that their 2014 models will fully support iOS in the Car. However, for those older models, we have to wonder how long it will be before we see some after-market adaptions?

iOS for cars is expected to become a popular feature in many new vehicles, but how long will it be before they become upset about owners ditching the in-car system in favor of Apple’s alternative? Then again, it could save money in the long run for optional extras, as you will not need GPS, because you can use the service being used on your iPhone, although mot certain how many of them will feel confidant with Apple Maps?
