If you were under the assumption that Nintendo were not taking an interest to E3 2013 this year, it looks like that theory is certainly without any merit. Nintendo won’t be having a press conference, but they will still be showing off all of their upcoming big guns in a series of Nintendo Direct broadcasts.
One of these is going to focus on the hugely anticipated Super Smash Bros game for the Wii U, which is in development for the 3DS as well by Namco Bandai and Sora. We now have confirmation that not only we will get screenshots of the game at E3, but Nintendo confirms that a trailer will be shown on June 11 as well.
Game Director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that this will be taking place at 7am PST, which means 10am Eastern Time and 3pm for everyone over in the UK. While a trailer has only been confirmed, we’re praying that this trailer includes some actual gameplay footage for the world to witness for the first time – not just some pre-rendered cutscenes.
お知らせしておきます。6月11日23時配信のNintendo Directで、新作『スマブラ』の映像が初披露となります。世界同時、ここが初！ お見逃しなく。

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it looks like Smash Bros will not be ready for release until 2014, so the odds on seeing actual gameplay at E3 next week could be very slim indeed. At least we are getting something though, on top of other exciting reveals coming in the form of Wii U Mario Kart, a new 3D Mario game and Pokemon X and Y, which will have its own unique roundtable event.
Considering that Namco are developing the game, it seems likely that we’ll see one or two characters make the jump to the Smash Bros Wii U roster from Tekken. Remember that Sony managed to get the likes of Heihachi Mishima in PlayStation All-Stars, so it would be strange if we didn’t see any Tekken characters in Smash Bros as well.
With just days to go until the first trailer for the game, tell us who you want to see included in Smash Bros for the Wii U – any obscure choices that you think would be a great fit for the style of the game?
