Audi has been accused of following BMW in the past, and so it comes as no shock to us that they are considering the A4 Vario, which is said to be in direct competition with the BMW 3 Series GT. If this is the case, then this rivalry will be rejuvenated for 2016, which is when the new Audi model is meant to land.
The Audi A4 Vario will be a spin-off based on the ever-popular A4 platform, but the German automaker wants to give the all-new A4 a head start before they release any new variants. That all-new Audi A4 will hit the streets in 2014.
According to Automobil Produktion, they report that the Vario will make use of the A4 platform and could come with a longer wheelbase, and will have the same concept design as the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, so a bigger and taller hatchback style, as well as a more roomy rear cabin.
As yet we have no other details because this is just in the rumor stage, although we have no reason to doubt why Audi would not want to bring their all-new A4 model into different markets. We already know that the 2014 Audi A4 will have a major revamp (which is needed) and will come with much improved styling along with losing around 100 kg as well. There’s to also be a plug-in hybrid version.
We’re sure that some of you will be a little confused, as you would have thought the A4 Allroad was the competitor to the 3-series GT, but that would be a wrong assumption. The reason we say this is because the Allroad model is in no way as refined as the Grand Tourer from BMW, which could be a reason why they wish to release the Vario, as a way to rectify this and create a more equal rival?
