Xbox One, PS4 UK Christmas 2013 release say ASDA

By Updated on

Sony and Microsoft are yet to announce official prices for their respective PS4 and Xbox One consoles, but when they do, consumers are in for a treat towards the end of the year when UK supermarkets begin their usual dogfight in an attempt to offer the best price in the country.

We see it all of the time with big software releases such as Call of Duty and FIFA, and you can bet that the same undercutting tactics will be deployed in time for the big next-gen launch dates as well. We told you earlier this week that one analyst had priced the Sony PS4 at $349.99 in the US and the Xbox One more expensive at $400.

As we wait for Sony and Microsoft to confirm this at E3, popular UK supermarket ASDA has now sent out word that they are accepting both Xbox One and PS4 orders, for consumers willing to put down a £20 deposit to do so. You can see this by visiting the PS4 page here and the Xbox One page here, but there’s a little gem hidden inside their terms and conditions.

We’ve discovered that ASDA has said that “The current expected date of release made by Sony is Christmas 2013″. They say the same thing for the Xbox One pre-order and don’t forget that Sony has so far failed to confirm whether the PS4 will be available in 2013 in Europe – only confirming a 2013 Holiday release for the US market.

This information is also different to GAME’s £20 deposit on next-gen systems, as they have said that they do not know the official price or release availability of the consoles. ASDA are saying Christmas 2013 for both the PS4 and Xbox One in the UK – is this a good indication that everyone is going to be very happy over Christmas? Let’s hope Sony and Microsoft confirm the good news at E3 2013.

Fingers crossed that this holds up and ASDA has revealed a little more information than they intended. Let us know if you have already put down a £20 deposit and if so – what console you opted for in the end.
