Xbox One price higher than Sony PS4 says analyst

By Updated on

We are just days away from the start of E3 2013 and in turn, moments away from a second showing from both Sony and Microsoft with regards to their next-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles. We are expected to hear PS4 and Xbox One release dates at the event, long with final retail prices as well.

Rather unsurprisingly though, we are already hearing whispers on what those prices could end up being, thanks to industry analyst Michael Pachter, who has offered his latest set of predictions for you to mull over. The analyst at Wedbush Morgan believes that it will actually be Microsoft’s Xbox One console that ends up the more expensive compared to the PS4, a product that Sony usually prices towards the premium spectrum first.

It’s what we saw with the crazy $599 price tag attached to the original 60GB fat PS3 in 2006. However, Pachter has boldly predicted that it will be Microsoft with the most expensive console this time, with the Xbox One priced at $399 and Sony pricing their PS4 system at $349.

Considering that Nintendo priced their Deluxe Wii U package at $349.99 in the US, we doubt there can be any complaints over $399 and $349 price tags for the Xbox One and Sony PS4 respectively. What may be surprising though is the fact that the Xbox One may be more expensive than Sony’s machine – not the other way around as we saw with current generation pricing.

It’s also worth noting however, that Pachter has added that Microsoft still may have plans to offer a cheaper version of the Xbox One, but that system would be attached to subscription prices to make up the cost – presumably combining Xbox Live Gold access and access to the new live TV features.

Consumers looking to pick up the Sony PS4 would be delighted with a $349.99 price point we imagine, as we expected the price to be at least $400 at retail. Does Pachter have it spot on this time, or do you still think the PS4 will end up more expensive than the Xbox One? Only days to go until E3 2013 starts, so give us your thoughts below.
