They say that good things come to those who wait, and it looks like we have another example of that here, albeit very later than expected. We’re pleased to say that the white Nexus 4 is now available to buy from the Google Play Store, but in line with previous speculation – only in 8GB and 16GB models.
That means that Google do not have any plans at the moment to add a much desired 32GB version of the Nexus 4 for consumers who desperately need the extra storage. To perhaps soften the blow on the memory disappointment, Google has generously revealed that they will be handing out free white bumper cases with every white Nexus 4 purchase made.
Those who have picked up a normal Nexus 4 and purchased a bumper may be a little angry over this, especially since a separate $19.99 was needed on top of the device. However, for those that are looking to pick up a Nexus 4 for the first time, it seems like the best opportunity to take advantage of the free bumper case.
Meanwhile, we’re also pleased to see that there doesn’t appear to be a repeat of the stock and shipping crisis that plagued the original Nexus 4 launch. The latest status on the Play Store has all new white Nexus 4 orders shipping in 1 to 2 business days, so you can get yours before the end of this week if you order today.
The big question, is whether you want to pay $349 for a 16GB Nexus 4 that doesn’t have the ability to expand storage via MicroSD card. It’s a dire situation further if you opt for the $299 8GB Nexus 4, considering that a portion of that 8GB will be taken up by system resources anyway – ending up in just over 5GB of actual usable storage.
Either way, the white Nexus 4 is available now, not the June 10 date that was previously rumored. Let us know if you are still planning to get one, or if you are waiting for the stock versions of the Galaxy S4 or HTC One.
