We have some good news for those of you who are already planning to get an Xbox One console no matter what at launch, as Microsoft has taken the opportunity to big up some of the console’s new cloud features. According to a company exec, we have heard this week that developers will have access to the cloud features for the system with the CPU and storage equivalent of three extra consoles.
That is quite a bold statement to make when you think about it, but obviously a very exciting one for consumers if true. Microsoft has told OXM that by doing this, they will effectively allow developers to create games for the system with the assumption that triple the resources are available through the cloud – enabling them to build bigger and more persistant levels for the user.
You’ll also want to know that Microsoft has said that these cloud features will be available on day one, so there will no need to wait until 2014 to see these features ‘rolled out’ as we’ve seen with the live TV aspect of the console in other regions outside of the US. The cloud features sound promising indeed, but will users need to pay an extra fee to make use of them? Sony already offers cloud storage of 1GB for every user, but only if they are a paid-PlayStation Plus subscriber.
Meanwhile, some of you may be worried about DRM measures on the upcoming console, but it is clear that many of you have not been deterred. Retail chain BlockBuster has announced that Xbox One pre-orders have broken any previous pre-order records that the company has ever had, adding that they are delighted with the huge numbers of orders that they have received so far.
The question is, have you already pre-ordered an Xbox One console already or are you waiting to see the games at E3 2013 first? We really don’t have long to wait now, so things are going to get very exciting indeed soon.
