In an attempt to steal some of the limelight away from Microsoft’s imminent Xbox 720 reveal on May 21, Sony has released a new teaser video, offering a slight glimpse at the PS4 console hardware. More importantly though, the teaser also confirms that Sony will finally show the console for real at their E3 2013 press conference next month.
As most of you are well aware, Sony debuted the PS4 at an early event in February, but failed to show the world what the actual PS4 rig looks like. This created all sorts of debate as you can imagine, with Sony attempting to deflect questions away by saying that the outlook of the hardware wasn’t deemed a priority for them – at the time.
To you and me though, it basically meant they were not ready yet. At their E3 press conference on June 10 though, there will be no excuses any more and the world will finally see what the console looks like in the flesh. Rumors of a PC-like rig may be accurate as well, as you’ll see from Sony’s brief teaser above.
At first glance, it looks like a rectangular box with lots of chrome mixed in. There also appears to be a significant amount of holes and vents, but still – Sony is not letting us have a direct view just yet. What may help in the detective work though, is these collection of still images that we have spotted over at Neogaf.
This breaks the teaser down a little for you, and allows you to see some of the specific images from the trailer for further clues. Again though, it is really hard to gain an accurate picture but hopefully some of the image geniuses out there will be able to create a mock up based on what we have just seen.
Has it done the job in deflecting attention away from Microsoft’s Xbox event which is just hours away? Maybe just a little. Study the images and video for yourself and let us know your theories on it.
